Up until a few years ago I was able to buy an ant bait gel called "Outsmart"
which was very effective in getting rid of occasional invasions of pharaoh
ants (in southern Florida). But then they stopped making it.
I believe it was a 6.25% boric acid concentration in some kind of sugar
containing vehicle. Does anyone know why it was discontinued and if any
similar bait composition is being sold now?
I think it came back as a product called ant cafe. Lesco sells it.
Look them up in your white pages.

The classic home remedy is a teaspoon of any of the boric acid powders
and a tablespoon of grape jelly. Cut half inch lengths of soda
straws, stuff the straw and leave it along the baseboard. Mix a
second batch with peanut butter, dip one end of the straw segment in
each batch and you have a peanut butter and jelly bait for sweet and
grease eating ants. :)

I believe it was a case of the maker was a small outfit
and when he passed away no one had the rights to
continue making the product. The Combat gel, Fipronil
formula attracted them nicely when I was in South
Florida a few weeks ago. Talking with a couple of the
local exterminators, they said that the Terro II works
well too. Both can be found at any grocery store.

We child proofed our home,
but they are still getting in.
